GREENTRACE Budapest: Three Inspiring Outdoor Events for a Greener City

This year, as part of the GREENTRACE project – funded by the Erasmus+ Programme – we organized three vibrant community activities to promote active outdoor education and sustainable habits among young people.

1. GREENTRACE Trash Picking Hike (October 5, 2024)

We kicked off with a scenic hike starting from Gellért Hill towards Déli Railway Station, where participants picked up litter along the tourist trails. Covering 4.8 kilometers, we enjoyed breathtaking views of Budapest while contributing to a cleaner environment. The easy, beginner-friendly route encouraged nature lovers to take part and inspired a sense of responsibility for our green spaces.

2. Walk & Clean: Green Budapest – A Trash-Picking City Walk (April 6, 2025)

Our next adventure took us on a refreshing Walk & Clean event through Óbuda. Starting from Flórián tér, we passed through Kiscelli Parkerdő, picking up trash along the way. After the activity, participants relaxed over a coffee and snack, celebrating their contribution to a greener Budapest and sharing ideas for future initiatives.

3. GREENTRACE Plogging – Move for the Earth! (April 22, 2025)

Finally, on Earth Day, we combined fitness and environmental action with a plogging event on Margaret Island. Whether jogging or walking, participants collected litter while staying active, making the island cleaner and showcasing how fun and impactful outdoor activities can be when tied to a sustainable cause.

Through these three events, we mobilized over a hundred participants, removed hundreds of liters of waste from public spaces, and promoted the message that small actions – whether hiking, walking, or jogging – can have a big positive impact on our environment. These events strengthened our community’s commitment to outdoor education and sustainable living.
